Kolkata: The “final meeting” of the state government and the Jomi, Jibika, Poribesh O Bastutantra Rakshya Committee over the issue of the power grid sub-station in Bhangar is going to take place on Tuesday.Sources said that the District Magistrate of South 24-Parganas district and senior officials of the state Power department will be representing the state government in the meeting that is considered to be the ultimate one before the ‘final minutes’ is signed with the committee. Also Read – Rain batters Kolkata, cripples normal lifeBased on the final minutes, the remaining work of the power grid sub-station will be carried out.The work of the power grid sub-station had to be stopped almost two years ago, after around 90 percent construction of the building was over and nine out of 13 towers were set up following protests, as there were various misconceptions among people about the setting up of the sub-station.With various steps taken by the state government, the committee members had realised the need of setting up the power grid sub-station. They had initiated the process of making local people understand the usefulness of the same and it came after a meeting of the committee’s representatives with the district administration on June 23. Sources said there will be elaborate talks over the “final minutes”, which is expected to be signed within a couple of days after the meeting on Tuesday.It may be recalled that the committee had placed some of their proposals before the district administration in the June 23 meeting that include some “modification of the plan” of the power grid sub-station, so that the remaining work can be completed. The work of the power grid will resume a day after the ‘final minutes’ gets signed. The committee members had also approached the common people in the area and made them understand about the need of the power grid sub-station.Tuesday’s meeting is quite crucial as this is the first time when members of the committee will be speaking to the district administration after they took steps to make local people understand the advantages of a power grid sub-station in the area.This comes at a time when the trial run of the Subhasgram-Sonakhali 132/33 KV line has become hundred percent successful on Monday. It may be mentioned that 41.2 km long high tension overhead electric wires from Subhasgram to Sonakhali have been laid for the benefit of around 2.5 lakh residents of North and South 24-Parganas.
