Wild Advance to Interior Conference Finals with Overtime WinTwo Vehicle Crash on

first_imgDuncan, BC – The Wenatchee Wild traveled out to Duncan, BC for the second time in six days to face the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Game 6 of the playoff series, and overcame a 2-0 deficit to post a 4-3 overtime win on Sunday night to eliminate the Capitals and move on to the Interior Conference Finals. The team to score first in the game had won each of the first five games of the series, and facing elimination the Capitals collected the first tally at 7:18 as Preston Brodziak fired a low shot past the ankles of Austin Park and Cowichan Valley led 1-0 after 1. They doubled their lead to 2-0 on a blocker-side David Melaragni goal on an odd-man rush at 6:10 of the second period. The Wild responded quickly as Marko Reifenberger drilled a shot past Pierce Diamond and the Wild were within a goal, trailing 2-1 after 2. Hooked down on a breakaway, Brian Adams had a penalty shot opportunity in the final minute of the middle frame but was turned aside. Wenatchee tied the game on a Jacob Modry snapshot from the left point at 1:30 of the third, and Lucas Sowder gave the Wild a 3-2 lead at 11:41, tapping home a feed from behind the net from Matt Dorsey. The Capitals rallied to tie as Jordan Robert put back the angled rebound of a shot from the right circle, and for the second game in a row, the game would be decided in overtime. Both teams had a couple of good chances in the extra session, but the Wild began to cycle and pressure in the Capitals end and when forward Niko Selivanov lost his stick, that allowed the Wild to draw in even tighter and Chad Sasaki wired a shot off the crossbar and into the net for the game winner at 5:42, clinching the game and the series. Austin Park turned aside 16 of 19 Capitals shots, perhaps none bigger than a save on a Paul Selleck breakaway in the third period.Next, the Wild will face the winner of Monday’s Game 7 between Vernon and Trail, played in Vernon. The Interior Conference Final series will open in Wenatchee on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31.Wenatchee playoff games are available for video streaming on HockeyTV, and will be broadcast live both locally and via internet stream on “NewsRadio 560 KPQ”, with the Pregame Shows starting 15 minutes prior to faceoff.Game recap provided by Arch Ecker and the Wenatchee Wild.last_img read more
